When Low Carb Stops Working 

You had success with a low carb diet years ago - and because it worked so well - you never gave up hope of low carb working again. 
For years you stuck with low carb with a dogged determination to get it working for you again. You tried high fat low carb, zero carb, eliminated nuts and sweeteners, carnivore, intermittent fasting, OMAD, even alternate day fasting - but none of it worked. The cravings never went away - like they did the first time and every time - your hunger and cravings would get the better of you and you would end up putting all the weight back on. 
It took me 15 years of this cycle of yo-yoing back to the same weight on every strain of low carb diet - to finally accept that low carb was not going to work for me as it had the first time I tried it.

Low-carb diets work because they starve out the problem gut bacteria,  but our microbiome adapts.  It gets better at thriving in the absence of dietary carbohydrates. Low carb - for many people- simply stops being effective

So what are we to do now?

 Surely you don't mean to bring back our old friends - the low-fat diet and veganism? That didn't work for us either!
It is veganism and it is low fat - but not as you know it. It is a combination of different strategies which are known to be effective for fat loss. Together those strategies work synergistically, so that the sum is greater than the parts. Together these strategies are dynamite! They will power through your plateaus and stalls and you will be astonished to realize that you are not yoyoing any more - you will actually keep losing weight until you reach your goal weight. 


             Synergy of Strategies:

Plant-based 

It is  scientifically well established that restricting animal products increases the metabolic rate, suppresses the appetite and improves health.  

Very Low-Fat 

Eating low-fat lowers the calorie density of the diet and increases the satiety per calorie.
It also reduces the presence of bile in the intestine, which suppresses the appetite and reduces the metabolic rate. 

Low in Addictive Qualities 

Sugar, salt and fat - especially in combination, can trigger the parts of the brain involved in cravings  and compulsive overeating.

Lower energy dense foods are more satiating per calorie'. They are also less 'rewarding' so less prone to triggering cravings and overeating.

Low Branched Chain Amino- Acids

It is the high levels of BCAA  which are  responsible for the obesity-promoting properties of animal protein.However, there are certain plant foods which are also quite high in these amino acids. During the weight-loss phase, we need to restrict these too.

Intermittent Fasting  


Intermittent Fasting works because it reduces calorie intake without increasing the appetite. In fact, it reduces the appetite, cravings and increases the metabolic rate!
It achieves this via effects on the microbiome and the brain. 

High Fibre and
Resistant Starch

Soluble and insoluble fibre has fantastic effects to suppress the appetite, increase the metabolic rate AND enable the excretion of lots of calories (poop them out)! This contributes to creating a calorie deficit without feeling deprived of calories. 
Also, fibre makes food more 'chewy', which contributes greatly to satiety. 

High in Power Foods 


Incorporates foods which have particular power to boost the metabolic rate, suppress the appetite and improve overall health. 

I am the evidence!

I am a 49 year old woman who has tried every permutation of low carb and intermittent fasting for 15 years and was only ever able to lose a maximum of 10 pounds- before yo-yoing back up to my starting weight of 12 stone over and over again. 
After 15 years of trying SO HARD with low carb, carnivore and intermittent fasting - I was again back to my starting weight of 12 stone.
I was the exact same weight as when I had started trying to lose weight 15 years earlier! 
On my last attempt with zero carb carnivore, combined with intermittent fasting - I was strong for 2 weeks - when I experienced the worst, most depressing craving. It was like a  feeling of complete emptiness. It was so awful and I just thought- this is not worth it. 
I then went on a carb binge. 
I begrudgingly accepted that low-carb was not working for me and I just could not live without carbohydrates for any length of time. 
If I was going to make friends with carbs - I wanted to know what would be the healthiest way to go about it. 
The exhaustive research I did is what led me to this combination of strategies. 
When I combined these strategies; what  happened was beyond my wildest dreams. 
I NEVER dreamed I would be able to lose weight so effortlessly, free of cravings, hunger and low energy, after suffering for so long, trying to do low-carb. 

It's the holy grail that has been hiding in plain sight. 
I realised that when low-carb stops working - to continue with it - makes weight loss even harder than a standard diet. 
Look what happened to me when I finally let go of the failed low-carb dream.

Why this way of eating is better than low carb 

No more plateaus and stalls

Low fat vegan diets have been found to increase the metabolic rate, increasing over the first few months and then staying higher for life. A recent study found that low fat vegan diets 
increase the metabolic rate by 18%!
This means that you don't experience the metabolic slow down that occurs with other diets.

No more yoyoing

Because the plan improves leptin sensitivity (lowering your set point); it enables you to lose weight without going into 'starvation mode' - with the increased hunger and cravings that cause you to rebound back to your starting weight - over and over again. 
When you do eat, it is more difficult to regain weight, because it is far more difficult for the body to store excess carbohydrates as fat, than it is to store excess fat calories as fat. 

No return of poor health symptoms 

Many people find that their poor health symptoms start to reappear after a while on keto and carnivore. E.g. they start seeing their blood sugars rising again. 
Again - this is a sign that your microbiome has adapted and problem bacteria are now thriving even in the absence of dietary carbohydrates. 
There is no adaptation that occurs with this way of eating - it will keep working for the rest of your life - to keep you lean and healthy into old age. 

Far more flexibility 

When you 'cheat' on a low carb diet – it can take 7 or more  days to get ‘adapted’ again. One cheat can ruin every thing. With this way of eating – there is far more leniency. Eating the 'wrong' thing won't set  you back 7 days or more. It  won't ruin everything. You can go back to this way of eating and  and start getting the benefits straight away. 

It is a LOT less expensive.

Potatoes, rice, oats, berries, bread and vegetables are a lot cheaper than steaks and avocados!

You can eat more 

Because the diet increases the metabolic rate by at least 18% - you  get away with eating more calories.
Also - because it is far more difficult for your body to store excess carbohydrate calories as fat, as long as you are eating low fat- you can get away with a lot more calories. 
You actually excrete 'poop' out a lot more calories too, meaning you can create a calorie deficit, without having to deprive yourself of eating them! 

Doesn't cause high cholesterol 

Keto and carnivore diets are notorious for causing high cholesterol levels.
In contrast – this way of eating is the optimal way of eating to lower cholesterol levels.  

More Environmentally and Animal Friendly! 

It is better for the environment and obviously animals too!

Less Pesticide Exposure 

Animals and fish have much higher concentrations of pesticides and toxins - which are known to reduce the metabolic rate, worsen health and accelerate aging processes.
